CHICKENS

Augusto worked hard to build our chicken coop under (partially) our garage. That was his special project. Here in New Zealand, wherewe live is very common to have animals like chickens, ducks, sheep, goats ... and we are getting the maximum possible advantage of having lots of space. The cost of living here is very high and any additions will certainly help. Augusto won a chicken with eight chicks from a friend of ours, then bought three more hens ready to lay eggs. There are 3 days they are in the chicken coop and we've had seven eggs. Excellent investment!
Our gardens are also a real success. We grow tomatoes, lots of herbs and spices, lettuce, pumpkins, watermelon, green peppers (which are horribly expensive here!), corn, celery, pepper, blackberry, passion fruit, kiwi, raspberry, 3 types of guava, cherry, apple , lemon, tangerine, mandarin, orange, peach, pear, plum ... Oh wow, I had not realized there were so many! I am very grateful to be able to plant it all and enrich our backyard. We will soon be reaping many fruits. This summer we harvested berries of all saplings planted, corn, feijoa (kind of guava) and lemon has a lot since we moved. Photos of the plants will come soon.
